A windfall obstacle

Ethiotelecom tried to silence me by taking back the laptop I was using without any precautions. Five months ago I requested a new one since the laptop was trebly slow due to lower specification and longer time usage. But they said (ISD/Office Automation department manager) they did not have any laptops in store. Two of my former colleagues have already changed their laptops for same reason.

On 19 March 2013, they came to my office and took the laptop. Their claim was that the section I am working in has already provided a desktop, so I had to give back either the desktop or the laptop as the new Role out and Automation policy does not allow a staff to possess more than one computer.

In this company, resource has been presumed unlimited. Therefore, as a principle, I accept the logic; the company should use resources effectively. Yet, it is practically void… just a means of discrimination… it does not apply for all.  One of my colleagues, in the section I am working, has two computers (desktop and laptop). Miraculously, they said nothing to him. I also know other employees who have more than two computers, three EVDOs (Unlimited and 4GB)… two is common for managers.

So, right now, I am back to the desktop world, cut off from the internet. That is, I think they might have thought; though, it will last only for a week (maximum). Then I will have my own, come back to the social jungle well equipped, and with enormous energy. Such challenges will never stop me from expressing my observations. They rather will energize, strengthen and propel me forward.

Well, it is said that “A still ocean cannot make a good mariner”.  Basically, had there not had an ocean or a sea, ships would have been unnecessary. So would have been the mariners. Had there not had a long distance between places, faster transport means, such as electronic railways and planes, would have been useless. If gravity had been inexistent, rockets would not have been invented.

Problems naturally invoke us to look for solutions. They motivate us to fill the gaps of nature thinking critically and working diligently.
