"If Evil Does Exist"

The other day, I came across the following story. I found the argumentation extraordinarily smart, and hence copy pasted here on my blog...just for remembrance and amusement. If Einstein really said it, I don't doubt his genus, he deserves a Nobel Prize.

Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"

"God created everything? The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name — Albert Einstein.

To Hover high up on the sky
Needs questions 'how' , 'when' and 'why'
To find out the key to success and utter a relief of sigh.

To stand up tall and climb up to the top
Life is to proceed, to live on a bright hope.

To live is to proceed, to proceed is to hack
To succeed is to grow, to grow is not to stuck

To succeed is to be, to produce honey like a bee
To produce is a chance, to pay out all the fee
To pay the fee is to use 'I' to serve the 'WE'

I AM A BIG TEAM

Some years back, I came across an amazing quote, a quote that changed my whole being. That single quote transformed the way I picture myself. It was really a sea change.
Self-absorption replaced self-denial;
Self-assurance replaced self-doubt.
Self-aggrandizement replaced self-renunciation; Self-acceptance replaced self-rejection.
Self-hatred replaced self-affection and ultimately came self love.

Henceforth, no more self-abasement, self-abnegation, self-accusation, self-humiliation…why the hell should I do so? Who on earth can ever be there for me better than myself? If I don’t firmly stand for myself whoever can? No one! That is improbable, illogical and impractical as well.

Let me try to explain why. Let’s say a beloved mother and her son are sitting around a campfire enjoying the warmth. Suddenly, and at the same instant, two lamps of coal sprinkled around each ones’ hand. Do you think the mother could rescue her son while her hand is being burned? How about the son?

The first thing both the mother and her son can do reflexively is wave their hands frantically. It is unrealistic that the mother could pick up the coal lamp on her son’s hand before hers. It is true of the son too. It doesn’t mean that they don’t love each other. Rather, their reflex action forces them to do so. That is beyond their control. So that is impossible.

Anyone must first be in a standing position before they can stretch their hands to help others stand up. Someone that does not swim must not jump in to the water to rescue an individual from drowning in, or else both may die instantly.

Because of this instinctive biological behavior, I completely discarded any kind of negativity towards myself… I re-discovered and approved myself, period. Henceforward, I loved myself more than anything. Therefore, I regretted for hurting myself. I openly confessed my sins to myself and vowed not to go against myself anymore. From that time onwards, I become my own best friend. I committed to myself. I determined to take care of myself, to assume the highest responsibility for myself. I and I become highly interdependent.

What was the quote then? I don’t know who said it first and I don’t know who to attribute it to. Anyways, I have no idea how to thank to whoever coined it. It says:

“If you are the only person in your team, and you are against yourself, how can you expect to win against the world?”(emphasis, color and italics added)Yeah, what an insightful saying! The world is an extremely big team that has never lost any game. It might have lost countless battles yet, Willy-nilly, the war is in her hands. That is who I am fighting teeth and nail all alone. And I am against myself means, to give in even without firing a single bullet… self imprisonment. No way! I am starving of absolute personal freedom.

Steve Maraboli is known to have said the following excerpt.
Free yourself from the complexities of your life and the imprisonment of your own limiting beliefs. You are enough. Within ourselves we all have the gifts and talents we need to fulfill the purpose we’ve been blessed with. At every given moment we are absolutely perfect for what is required for our journey. YOU ARE ENOUGH! Embrace the power of your truth today. Be unapologetically you. Be free. Today is a new day!
That is true! I am ENOUGH for myself. It is a new day, a re-birth…a downright FREEDOM! I officially freed myself! And just like Dr. Martin Luther king, I said free at last, free at last, free at last! Then, I smiled at myself, gave a warm hug and thanked myself while saluting to the author of the quote.

I had an interview just today morning.

among the questions:
one colleague was asked how many employees our company has.
In a confident and relaxed way she answered: about seven thousand. I was the next interviewee: and the question was list down the seven thousand employee's names. Stunned, I stood up and left the office without any word.

The Big Rocks of Life!

One day a wise teacher was speaking to a group of his students. He pulled
out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on a table in front of
him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed
them, one at a time, into the jar.

When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he
asked, "Is this jar full?"

Everyone in the class said, "Yes."

"Really?" he asked. "Let's see." He reached under the table and pulled
out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar,
causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between
the big rocks. Looking carefully from face to face, he smiled
benevolently and asked again, "Is the jar full?"

His class was catching on quickly. "Probably not," one of them answered.

"Very good!" he replied. He then reached under the table and brought out a
bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all the
spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. When he was finished he once
again asked, "Is this jar full?"

"No!" the class shouted.

"Excellent!" he replied. Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and poured it
in until the jar was filled to the brim. Once again looking intently into
the eyes of each student, he asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how
full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some more
things into it!"

"Aha, that's very good!" the teacher replied, "But let us look a bit
deeper. This illustration also teaches us a higher truth: If you don't put
the big rocks in first, you will never get them in at all!"

What are the "Big Rocks" in your life? Financial freedom? A project that
YOU want to accomplish? Time with your loved ones? Your faith, your
education, your business? A cause? Teaching or mentoring others?

Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all.

Here's how to grow a little. Tonight just before you go to bed, or first
thing tomorrow morning take a moment to reflect on this short story, and
ask yourself this question: What are the "Big Rocks" in my life or
business? Put those in your jar first.

“To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded.”
― Bessie Anderson Stanley
“Dare to Be

When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.

When there is darkness, dare to be the first to shine a light.

When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.

When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.

When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.

When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.

When you’re feeling tired, dare to keep going.

When times are tough, dare to be tougher.

When love hurts you, dare to love again.

When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.

When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.

When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.

When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.

When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.

When the day has ended, dare to feel as you’ve done your best.

Dare to be the best you can –

At all times, Dare to be!”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
One of the best quotes I admire about time:

"Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.”

Government Officials: why such a day light robbery?

http://www.ethiopianreporter.com/news/293-news/8974-2012-12-22-11-12-51.html

Politicians(especially in Ethiopia) are: double-dealers, casino gamblers, killers,Corrupt; rent seekers, power mongers, compulsive lairs,...fanatically egoistic individuals... both opposition and ruling party politicians. There are some innocent politicians but they are considered outdated, and hence, dominated by a mass of criminal politicians. Some, especially the corrupt ones, claim they are freedom fighters, the others boastfully preach they are peace makers, development advocates, selfless public servers. But is that so? Isn't the oldest saying, " Action speaks louder than words." still true?If these politicians are such and so, do they really need to brag to this extent? Which government office is serving the society freely? That's without favoritism, nepotism and bribery which are typical of all government offices? Why their offices are full of pig headed individuals gathered, only out of kinship, from here and there like house flies on a dead donkey's corpus? Why Ethiopian Telecommunication corporation cost 30 million euros only to change its name into Ethio Telecom...after two years and a half, nothing has changed? Why Ethiopian Electric Corporation management is to be given to Israel company? Is it because we Ethiopian technocrats are gutless, mindless, anti change, anti development? It is because they want corrupt these companies... they need them for their selfish personal ends.Either their kins should move and shake these seemingly pubic companies as want or else they should be given to foreign individuals or companies. This is really, really shameful... a sheer irony. Who are these big bellies serving day in and day out?... their paranoia and their deformed and perishable body. These awkward individuals are nothing but "big kids"... the know it all and fragile egoists. These rascals are as grotesque as their scare crow figures.

I'm always concerned about emigration and nationality agency and social security agency... they never deserve such names. Each and everyday, I can see thousands lines of people waiting for passports. Most of them are illiterate country girls who cannot even speak Amharic. And I suspect there are illegal human traffickers in these so called government offices. I suspect there are social evils that live on modern slave trade. If these were not the cases, why these very agencies never stopped or tried to stop the suicides and barbaric homicides of our sisters in the middle east?

Is it true that these politicians are meant to serve the people? Why don't they, then, solve such social demons? Where are their children? Aren't they in foreign countries living extremely fabulous life? And how on earth can they do so, without corruption and national reserves embezzlement? That's a day light robbery. They take a loins share of our national income to serve to serve no one but themselves. Otherwise, they would have acted against social mishaps rather than simply preaching. They would have walked what they talk rather than mischievously annoying the society with their recurrent day dreaming preaches.

Our society has enough of lip services and blind folding deceivers, now, it is yearning for tangible social, political and economic changes. Changes that uplift the communal social life. Not in words but in action. Not after 20 or 50 years but now. We don't need corrupt officials, brutes, dictators, double dealers and drug cartels.

"Life is a Highway"  by Rascal Flatt

In case you like it as I do, please got to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5TIulzXoXo.
Please do it. It is just a click away. And let's drive it all the way together listening to this amazing music as a sound track. I swear to ... what ever. I 'll accompany you  all the way safely. Ready? LET'S GO!
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Whooo.... ummm
        ....... yeah!"Life is a highway!"

Yes, indeed. Life is a highway! Isn’t it? We can go lift or right, forward or backward, and up or down because, after all we said “Life is a highway!" we are the choosers and actors of what we choose. We have plenty of chances, called tomorrows, to choose and re-choose among myriads of opportunities, haven't we? Yes, life is a highway! we can go as far away as we can, choosing all the way which one to take.

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

There may be  thousands of stumbling stones out there to seemingly block our way. I know that for sure, sometimes we may face a lot of big boulders even mountains that make it impossible to pass through. Well, can't we really retreat back and sneak off the other way? I'm sure we can. So,please come with me. Let's go together singing and swinging...swinging back and forth. Let's sing it again.

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Absolutely, life is a highway. During childhood, our sources of happiness and unhappiness were little useless toys, candies and so forth. And as we grow up these toys grow with us as well, and become bigger toys such as brandy cars, houses ....
We run here and there frantically to own the best toys of our life ...to feel happy. But really? If our purpose in life is running for toys, can we ever feel happy? I don't think so. why? Because, it is impossible to possess and handle all toys. And if we can't, the most probable, you know how we feel and what we do. We cry! like the little kids. Do we have to cry through out our life? I would say NO! I would prefer to free of myself and breakout of the bed rocks of molds. But this is impossible if my mission is pursuing toys. To get all these toys, one must trade life with toys... and that's, I believe, the nastiest of all.

If someone really loves oneself, they don't care whether they have toys or not. If there is anything to worry about, that's just to become better than yesterday's self. That's to approve and love oneself now and then. That's to hug oneself adorably. That's to give oneself a candy kiss hiding in the roses of life. Yes, these roses are everywhere... free of charge. Don't expect, my friend, someone to pluck a single rose and give it to you. Go by yourself to the jungle of roses and enjoy fully. If you need a guide or heavenly safe company, I'm here for you. Lean on me. Please click and listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMbEOofifXY

And if you asked why, the answer is this, let's say it once more.
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long.
How was our trip? Are we still together? If so, it was you who accompanied me this way, safe heavenly. It's you, not me, who drove it all the way long. It was on you whom I leaned on.
Thank you so much and
           So Long!

P.s.
"Life Is a Highway" is a song written by Tom Cochrane, from his 1991 album Mad Mad World. The song was Cochrane's most famous song, as it was a number one hit in his native Canada. The song also peaked at number six on the Billboard charts in the United States in 1992. The song has been famously covered by Rascal Flatts for the Cars soundtrack, as well as by Chris LeDoux and Jerry Jeff Walker.

Life's like a road that you travel on
There's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind

There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
For the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore

We won't hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today, yeah

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights
They knock me down and back up again
You're in my blood, I'm not a lonely man

There's no load I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it

All night long

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, yeah

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (mmmm yeah)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

There was a distance between you and I
(between you and I)
A misunderstanding once
But now, we look it in the eye

Ooooo...Yeah gimme some mowah!

There ain't no load that I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (all night long, yeah hey)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme some more, yeah

"Let Me Go Home"

Oh my God how much I like this song. It makes me feel nostalgic. those who live and die with dignity where they grew up are the luckiest people on earth.Everything that happens at home is a spice of life.when you are away from home, it doesn't mean that you won't find other people, rather it means that these people don't give any sense... they are just like boulders, crumbs and insignificant trees in the bush.

American actor and dramatist John Howard Payne sung

"Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home;"

"Home, home, sweet home,

There is no place like home."

Kalamino Special High School:My Adoptive mother

 Prelude:

On Saturday, January 31, 1980’s (It may surprise you that the exact year is still not verified but it is typical of  individuals like me who come of an illiterate family) a baby boy was born out of marriage … you can call him ‘bastard’ as some members of his commune and even close relatives used to. I’m not sure how his parents met but an aftermath story goes on this way: the boy’s so-called father committed a homicidal crime and fled his outskirt, a very far away country side, to dwell in another village of a to be born boy’s mother… a safe haven hideaway. The yet to be a mother was a lovely teenage girl who could arouse the middle aged man an urge of erotic love. Ironically, the lucky criminal, who should have been locked behind the bars, was heedlessly granted a gorgeous girl to lustfully devour her. During his unfairly blissful time, the man, already a father of four children, made the girl bear two siblings who were condemned to grow only out of their luck. After an outstanding success to quench his womanizing desire, that very man gave in to the military junta of that time. Derg made him swear in socialism and gave him a gun to kill some more people.  The youngest one, a marvelous baby girl, was not allowed to live over a year and a half after which her luck must expire. So, an angel of death was send from out of the blue with his belly full of measles just to belch them at a mass of children. The messenger savaged the defenseless baby unripe. But, the older one miraculously survived and is, now, able to expose the ‘bastard’s’ short story… what a little bastard!

That socially stigmatized boy suffered the agony of unbearable sore of losing an only true companion of his childhood. That sore left him with an incurable scar to this very day. He could still remember her babyish laugh and sob bitterly as though it happened just today. To make the boy’s misery worse, his mother abandoned him technically alone and went in search of her once lover. The boy was warned not to tell anyone who his father was let alone to swear by his name. When he insisted why, his granny plainly told him lest the boy might be a victim of enraged avengers. To his rescue, his grandmother made him forget everything and enjoy childhood ecstasy under her amicable nursery. She completely instilled her selfless love in the boy’s little heart. Even after his mother came back, from her unsuccessful trial of reclaiming her first love, he ignored her and preferred his granny. As time went by, the boy regarded his mother like an older sister who was there to bully him.

Their affection got worse after she remarried to another man. That man became the boy’s step father who used to scare the hell out of his little being. Only those who have an experience of a devilish step father or step mother can understand what I mean. That illiterate villager had no idea how to command a child. He could shout to his throat like a demon, reminding the boy some ghostly monsters in some stories. This way, he used to scare the boy to lash him afterwards and leave him with agonizing gashes all over. The sever he tormented the boy the naughtier he became.
At school:
October 1995, the boy started school with the help of his granny and stood first from his class. His teachers encouraged him to stay at school in spite of the chaos at home. They could give him a pen or exercise book if he had not any. Granny was in his side as well, though she looked older and weaker due to undiagnosed chronic disease. When he reached grade seven his granny, an only and one reason of his survival, died to his hopelessness. That was the greatest loss of his life. He could hide among the big black stones and got soaked in tears. No one could stop him. He could cry bitterly and at times humiliate himself as much as he could endure. That self inflected anguish was a relief… his pent up. It was a sheer demise. For him life was nothing but an absolute darkness. And hence, he used to contemplate to commit suicide!

During such testing time, the only people who could understand his misery were his teachers. He never told anybody what happened to him, yet the teachers were adept enough to infer his internal suffering. As a result, he continued with his education. At grade eight he took ministry examination and scored the second highest in his class. To attend grade nine and above he had to travel 35 kilo meters on foot and fined a rent house there. But who could pay the rent? Who could give him something to eat? It was a dead end; he had no option but to kiss a good bye to school.
The Adoptive Mother:
Kalamino special high school was giving a life saving scholarship to 60 outstanding students from all over Tigray. To the boy’s astonishment he was among the four students who were short listed to take an entrance exam to Kalamino in Michew which was at that time the biggest city for the country boy. Among those listed for the entrance exam made fun of him all the way to Michew because of his obsolete style. He was not sure if he could pass the exam. However, after a month or so a national radio, Demtsi Weyane Tigray, broadcast names of 60 students who passed the exam. To boy’s amazement, he was learned the greatest news of his life by third party informants. At first, he could not believe them, but it was as inevitable as death. Another turning point, but this time to his advantage happened to the boy. On November 05, 2001 he officially joined Kalamino Special High School and that became his adoptive mother. Once more, the boy was born out of marriage but this time, no one called him bastard. The little ‘bastard’ I told you before shared dormitory, class, café and library with the genius students of Kalamino Special High School...what an opportunity. And that poor flow ‘bastard’ …was…me! This story belongs to me even if it was not something to be proud of. To be alive and unmask oneself is a blessing.

Finally, I would like to thank members and supporters of TDA, Beloved classmates and doormats, Teachers, café and library workers, the nurses at the clinic, guards and all people over there who directly or indirectly contributed for the realization me. All of you extended a precious hand with a magic wand at such a critical time which makes it indelible from my memory forever. Without you life would have been dangerously different.

   Thank you so much! TDA
